A fresh look at the Wines of BC with Sommelier and Chef Jay Drysdale.
Dunham and Froese

These guys just get it.  You take care of the land, you grow the best grapes possible with an organic and sustainable mindset, and you will be rewarded with quality grapes.  Then its just a matter of keeping those quality flavours pure and in-sync with the style of wine you want to create.

Amicitia Red 2006

$28

Rich red plum flavours with bacon, spice and strawberry jam.  Full consistent palate balanced with integrated tannins and bright acidity.  Love the amount of complexity for such a young wine.  Long finish with hints of earth and cherry.  Very impressive, look forward trying again in five plus years.  If a bottle does end up open in front of you, I would reach for something earthy like seared tenderloin with crispy leeks and capers. 200 cases made.  Tasted Sept 3, 09

Amicitia White

$25

Floral and grassy with a touch of honeysuckle this blend of Sauv Blanc, Semillion, and Viognier shows wonderful pure flavours that keep their intensity on the palate as well.  The crisp and zippy acidity balance the oily viscosity.  Nice grapefruit and grass on the long finish.  Enjoy this wine now and over the next three to four years.  How about fresh pasta with clams, lemon zest, green olives, parsley, and a pinch of pepper flakes.  Happy Happy.

Rose

$17

Mostly made from merlot with a touch (5%) syrah this rose is shows off strawberry tones and straw.  There is a nice ruhbarb flavour mid palate but the flavours get a little blurred.  This wine needs some food to bring the flavours back into focus.  Slow roasted garlic cloves to compliment some local brie and a touch of flaked salt and cracked pepper will make this wine disappear quickly.
